About

My name is Karl Farren, and I began my career in East Asian Medicine early in 1989 after several years training in Kung Fu.

I moved from Dublin to London to study, initially at the British School of Shiatsu-Do, graduating in 1991.  As the outstanding graduate in my year, I was invited to join the faculty of the school, and for six years I was a Senior Teacher of Shiatsu and Chinese Medicine there.

During this period I also went on to complete a further four years of study in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine at the London School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (later part of the University of Westminster).  On graduating in 1995, I was also invited to join the faculty there, but I was unable to take up this opportunity.

More recently, I have taught Chinese Medicine theory and Shiatsu at The Way College of Oriental Therapies and Bodywork, Byron Bay.  I operated a successful practice in London for several years before moving to Australia, and since January 1999 I have been in private practice in Mullumbimby, NSW, where I strive always to combine compassion and professionalism with excellence in healthcare.

While practicing and teaching in the UK, I was a member of the Register of the Shiatsu Society (registered as a Practitioner and as a Teacher), the British Acupuncture Council and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Since January 1999 I have been a member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA), and I am registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA), under AHPRA, in compliance with the Health Practitioners National Law Act, Registration number CMR 000 172 9920.
